Finding the scout Rya in Elden Ring marks the beginning of a fascinating questline that leads players directly to the treacherous Volcano Manor. This mysterious character serves as an invitation-bearer, offering an alternative route into one of the game's most dangerous legacy dungeons. Locating her early in your journey ensures you do not miss out on deep lore and unique rewards.

Initial Encounter in Liurnia of the Lakes

Your first opportunity to meet Rya occurs in the marshy wetlands of the Liurnia region. She can be found standing inside a small stone gazebo located just northwest of the Laskyar Ruins. This structure sits directly next to a prominent Birdseye Telescope landmark, making it relatively easy to spot from a distance.

When you speak to her, Rya will explain that a thief has stolen her precious necklace and request your assistance in retrieving it. To advance her storyline, you must travel slightly northwest from her pavilion to find the Boilprawn Shack. There, you will encounter the culprit, Blackguard Big Boggart, from whom you can purchase or take back the stolen heirloom.

Relocation to the Altus Plateau

After you return the necklace to Rya, she will reward you with the Volcano Manor Invitation, signaling the next stage of her journey. Her subsequent location depends entirely on how you choose to access the elevated Altus Plateau region. If you utilize the Grand Lift of Dectus, she will be waiting for you right at the top of the platform near the exit.

Alternatively, if you scale the dangerous Ruin-Strewn Precipice to bypass the lift, Rya will appear at the Lux Ruins instead. Regardless of where you meet her on the plateau, speaking to her allows her to take your hand. This action instantly teleports your character directly into the drawing-room of Volcano Manor, bypassing the arduous trek up Mt. Gelmir.

Moving Within the Volcano Manor Walls

Once you arrive at the manor and pledge your service to Lady Tanith, Rya shifts to a new location inside the fortress. She can initially be found resting in the drawing-room alongside the other recusant NPCs. As you complete the assassination contracts assigned by the manor, her physical form will eventually shift to reveal her true serpent identity, Zorayas.

Following this revelation, she moves into a small, dark room adjacent to the main corridor. Investigating the secret walls of the manor will unlock the prison town area, which is vital for her progression. Delivering the Serpent's Amnion item to her in this location will prompt her to disappear once again to seek answers about her birth.

Finding Rya's Final Hiding Place

Rya's final destination is a secluded room deep within the lava-filled legacy dungeon of Mt. Gelmir. To reach her, you must progress through the Temple of Eiglay and navigate past the volcanic architecture. She hides in a small chamber located beneath the path leading to the optional teleporter zone.

In this final area, she will ask you to end her suffering, presenting you with a major choice that dictates the conclusion of her questline. You can choose to slay her, spare her life without acting, or administer the Tonic of Forgetfulness given by Tanith. Each path yields different narrative closure and specific mechanical talismans for your character build.
